ChakraTech Named Finalist in Industrial Biotech Innovation Prize Challenge
San Diego, CA — August 10, 2026
ChakraTech is one of ten finalists selected for the Industrial Biotech Innovation Prize Challenge, which recognizes technologies that strengthen domestic manufacturing, advance bioindustrial production, and improve supply chain resilience. The company will present at the 2026 Bioeconomy Summit, part of Defense TechConnect, which convenes the innovation ecosystem advancing national security and brings together government, industry, investors, and researchers around critical technology priorities.
"Biomanufacturing holds the promise of solving some of our toughest industrial and medical challenges," said Dr. Ravi Chawla, founder and CEO of ChakraTech. "Getting there means integrating science and engineering well enough to unlock cost-competitive production, industrial integration, and real deployment."
ChakraTech's approach starts at the input. The company is building proprietary microbial chassis for methanol, CO₂, and sugars, inputs that are abundant and available domestically. The same platform serves medical grade biocompatible materials, pharmaceutical applications, and high performance industrial plastics, including polymers built for marine and naval environments.
"Flexibility on the input side is what opens up the output side," Chawla said. "It lets us solve for cost and performance at the same time."
Finalists present on Tuesday, September 22 at the Bioeconomy Summit in National Harbor, Maryland. The challenge is presented by TechConnect and powered by Advanced Technology International, in collaboration with MCDC, the CWMD Consortium, BioMaP, and RRPV.
ChakraTech Named a San Diego Business Impact Honoree
San Diego, CA — July 24, 2026
San Diego, July 24, 2026, ChakraTech was recognized at a July 23 celebration at Scripps Research as a San Diego Business Impact Honoree, an award presented by the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation and JPMorganChase to companies driving economic growth across the region. ChakraTech's biomanufacturing R&D is headquartered in San Diego, where the startup engineers microbes to turn a widening range of feedstocks into high-performance biomaterials for medical and industrial markets. The company works closely with academic institutions including UC San Diego and MiraCosta College, and has expanded its team and lab operations in the city.
"San Diego provides us with the science, the talent, and the community to grow as an early-stage deep-tech company from the ground up, and this belongs to the team making it happen here," said Dr. Ravi Chawla, founder and CEO of ChakraTech.
ChakraTech continues to build that platform in San Diego, guided by a simple idea: the same biology that can heal the body can rebuild how industry makes things.
ChakraTech Announces Anima, Its Medical Biomaterials Line
San Diego, CA — June 23, 2026
ChakraTech announced Anima, its medical biomaterials line, at the 2026 BIO International Convention. Anima brings the company's microbial biomanufacturing platform into medicine, producing biocompatible, resorbable materials engineered from biopolymers found across life for billions of years and designed for tunability in implants, scaffolds, and drug delivery. The same biology behind ChakraTech's industrial materials now extends into the human body, engineered to a different standard: materials designed to belong there, hold their strength while needed, and resorb cleanly on a timeline the company can design.
"Our bodies have evolved alongside these biopolymers for billions of years. We are building materials the body and nature already recognize as their own, reducing the foreign-body response common to synthetic materials," said Dr. Ravi Chawla, founder and CEO of ChakraTech. "The same microbial biomanufacturing that lets us make high-performance industrial materials lets us make medical-grade materials for the body, the same engine, directed by very different design rules toward two very different worlds."
Anima, Latin for soul or life, joins Materia, Latin for matter or material, ChakraTech's industrial line. Learn more about Anima at chakratechworks.com/technology/anima.
ChakraTech thanks the Biotechnology Innovation Organization for featuring the company at BIO 2026 and for its continued support. Read the feature on LinkedIn.
ChakraTech Wins the 2026 EarthX Climate Tech Prize
Dallas, TX — April 23, 2026
ChakraTech emerged as the winner of the 2026 EarthX Climate Tech Prize in Dallas, Texas on Earth Day 2026. Selected from over 250 global applicants, the San Diego-based biomanufacturing company shared the semi-finals and finals stage with The Earthshot Prize winners, venture-backed teams, and major grant-funded teams at the 10th Annual E-Capital Summit. The Climate Tech Prize is sponsored by MassChallenge.
"We are proud to have won in that company. Bootstrapped," said Dr. Ravi Chawla, Founder and CEO of ChakraTech.
ChakraTech is building a full-stack manufacturing platform that integrates biology, chemistry, engineering, and AI to produce a new class of high-performance materials. From medical-grade biomaterials designed for the human body to industrial materials that perform and then disappear. Built from concept to functional prototypes with radical capital efficiency. And there is more in the pipeline.
Over seven proprietary chassis. Ten proprietary carbon assimilation pathways. Hundreds of design pathways and predictions across materials, enzymes, and metabolic remodeling. Multiple feedstocks. One platform.
Biology x Chemistry x Engineering x AI = Performance x Scale.
"We defy the boundaries of discipline. The best technology does the same," said Dr. Chawla. "It strengthens domestic supply chains. It advances human health. It restores ecosystems. It builds economic security. That is what this platform is for."
"Nature solved this problem billions of years ago. We are harnessing biology and chemistry to bring the circular economy to scale. Made by biology. Built to perform. Designed to disappear," said Dr. Chawla.
ChakraTech's Biodegradable Polymer Technology Showcased at California State Capitol
Biomanufacturing platform offers alternative to microplastic-generating petrochemical plastics
Sacramento, CA - 02/05/2026
ChakraTech's biomanufacturing platform for biopolymers and chemicals was featured before California's Assembly Economic Development Committee in Sacramento. Founder and CEO Dr. Ravi Chawla was nominated by California's SBDC Network to represent innovative startups across California.
Dr. Chawla addressed legislators on how ChakraTech is pioneering the conversion of waste streams into biodegradable polymers, a sustainable alternative to petrochemical plastics. Regenerative. Carbon-negative. Safe for people and planet. This is the future of manufacturing.
The presentation comes as California implements SB 54, landmark legislation requiring a reduction in single-use plastics by 2032. For ChakraTech, SB 54 unlocks significant market demand for biodegradable alternatives. The company is building to meet it.
What starts in California rarely stays in California. Similar mandates are spreading across the U.S. and globally. ChakraTech is building for a worldwide transition.
"Deep-tech ventures don't happen in a vacuum. It takes an ecosystem to raise," Dr. Chawla said. "California's innovation ecosystem is unparalleled. The infrastructure, advisors, and policy leadership create the conditions for companies like ours to tackle hard problems."
The company is scaling a platform that addresses carbon emissions and plastic pollution through a single integrated process, positioning ChakraTech at the intersection of regulatory demand and market opportunity.
